March 13, 2008 by polivox
Let your Vox (voice) be heard through our first ever political poll. Hypothetically speaking, if Barack Obama is the eventual Democratic Presidential Nominee, who should he choose as his running-mate — the eventual Vice President?
For the secure handling of our poll, we chose Zimbio, where we publish a “wikizine” in conjunction with this blog.
CAST YOUR VOTE (You must cast your vote on the actual poll. Votes via the comment section below are nice but will not count…but feel free to leave your comments as well.)
The Results As Of March 12, 2008. Poll runs until May 1, 2008.

Joe Biden.
Gov. Kathleen Sibelius of Kansas. One, he needs a governor, not another Senator taken from a closely divided chamber. Napolitano is more suited to AG by experience. Kansas would be a swing state with Sibelius on the ticket, and choosing a woman would help to heal the party. Since Sibelius endorsed Obama fairly early, she’s a logical choice.
Obviously-Senator Joe Biden as the VP-Old (relatively), experienced, white, beyond reproach on fireign affairs- with Obama,an unbeatable team (though admittedly, a safe choice).
PLs l will go for Anthony ZINNI FORMER CENTCOM
None of the Above. He will have to do bettter than that.
Off hand I wouldn’t know who to choose right now but HE would have to be high profile, politically educated and well versed in foreign affairs.
I worry about who any of the nominees would pick as/for a running mate. I think they would worry more about how many votes that running mate could bring in more than they think about how good will he be for the couintry, as in, a heart beat away from being President.
Harried:
Why would Obama’s VP have to be a he?
There are other qualified, intelligent and experienced females besides Hillary Clinton, who would make an excellent choice for Vice President in an Obama administration.
Unfortunately. the choice of a running mate is always about votes and based on regional appeal.
However, I have a suspicion that Barack Obama will ‘change’ that process and put more weight (while still considering votes and appeal) on experience and what’s good for the country.
Obama is a smart man. He knows that in addition to the accepted risks and pitfalls of the presidency, he is going to be under an even brighter spotlight.
It is important that I remind everyone that I do support Obama for president and that I would never wish him ill, but I also believe that Obama has an increased risk of physical threat or assasination attempt, for the simple reason that he would be smashing one of the last established and accepted forms of racism in our society — the presidency.
After all, there have been 43 white men in that office till now. No women. No men or women of color.
There are some in this country that would give anything to make that reality not come to fruition, and if it does, they will take great risk to make it end abruptly. I pray not.
Obama knows as we know. He must balance the ticket out with a running mate that compliments him in every way, yet still stand on his/her own when it comes to experience, intelligence, diplomacy and the ability to assume the presidency, if it should come to that.

Chris Dodd might be good. A governor like Bill Richardson would be good, too. It would have to be a governor that didn’t want to decriminilize marijuana, though, I don’t think that would work. And maybe someone a little less foreign seeming. He has to pick someone super American, male or female and older would help. Someone with either executive or foreign experience, preferably both. Perfect! a whiter, more conservative Bill Richardson… is there one of those around?
